What a buyer should know
Who it suits
The 5.5-knot top speed is the specification, and everything else follows from it. The Sun Cruiser 22 is a harbour, canal and lake launch for owners who want to move gently between a mooring, a restaurant and a sunset while carrying up to twelve people. Duffy has sold more of these than anyone has sold any other electric boat, which brings a real second-hand market, established parts supply and long-proven engineering. The patented Power Rudder — motor, rudder and four-blade prop in a single assembly that rotates through roughly 90 degrees — is a genuinely useful piece of design for tight berthing. A 40 nm range at that speed amounts to a full day afloat, which is the point.
The caveats
The 48-volt system runs on a bank of sixteen six-volt batteries. That is cheap and simple to replace, but it is heavy, slower to charge and shorter-lived per cycle than lithium; budget for the pack, and ask what a lithium conversion would cost if one is offered. The €43,000 figure is converted from a $61,500 US list dating to 2023, so read it as an indication of segment rather than a European price — shipping, VAT and CE compliance sit on top of it. And anyone who needs to actually get somewhere should be looking at a different boat entirely.
