The E-Commuter is a 7.65 m wooden electric day boat built by Cantiere Ernesto Riva, a Lake Como yard operating since 1771. It carries seven people, runs a 92 kW electric motor and is quoted at 25 knots, and is conceived specifically as a lake commuter rather than a coastal cruiser. The yard does not publish a battery capacity, range or price. Note that this is not the same company as Riva of the Ferretti Group, despite the shared name and lake.

What a buyer should know

Who it suits

The Cantiere Ernesto Riva E-Commuter is a boat for a Lake Como or comparable lakeside property owner who wants a traditional wooden launch without a petrol engine in it — someone buying craftsmanship and continuity as much as transport. The commuter framing is honest: seven seats, no accommodation, a hull shape and material aimed at short, frequent, sheltered-water journeys. Anyone shopping on cost per metre, on service-network convenience, or on open-sea capability is not the customer here.

The unpublished figures matter more than usual

Ninety-two kilowatts is a serious motor for the E-Commuter's 7.65 m hull and supports the 25-knot claim, but the yard publishes no battery capacity, and without it the 25 knots is a number you cannot plan around. At anything near full output, a pack of the size that typically fits a boat this length would be measured in tens of minutes. Treat the top speed as an overtaking and short-burst figure and insist on a documented range-versus-speed table before signing anything.

Caveats

A wooden hull is a maintenance commitment, not a style choice; budget for it annually. There is no published price, which for a yard of this type usually means each boat is quoted individually. And be clear with yourself about the name: this is Cantiere Ernesto Riva, an independent Lake Como yard, not Riva of Ferretti — the two are unconnected, and any resale valuation that leans on the wrong one is mistaken.

Written from the builder’s published specifications and the wider market, not from testing the boat ourselves. Always confirm figures with the manufacturer before committing.
