Request a quote

The Windelo 54 is a 16.24-metre bluewater sailing catamaran built in France from recycled and bio-sourced composite materials, with four cabins, a 7.98-metre beam and a light 12,800 kg displacement for its size. Propulsion is a 40 kW electric system with a 53.8 kWh battery, supported by solar, hydro-generation and wind generation. It is a hybrid rather than a pure-electric yacht: a 17.9 kW diesel generator and a 500-litre fuel tank are fitted as standard. Prices start at €1,550,000.

What a buyer should know

Be clear what you are buying

Windelo markets the Windelo 54 as an eco-responsible ocean catamaran, and the ecological case rests mainly on construction — recycled and bio-sourced composites in place of conventional GRP — rather than on emission-free operation. The propulsion is a serial hybrid: 53.8 kWh of battery is meaningful for manoeuvring, anchoring and short passages under motor, but it is a fraction of what a 12.8-tonne catamaran needs to cross anything, and the standard 17.9 kW generator with 500 litres of diesel is there precisely because of that. Anyone shopping for a genuinely diesel-free yacht should know this before viewing.

Where the concept genuinely works

On a sailing catamaran the calculation is different from a motor boat. The sails do the passage-making; the electric drives handle harbours and calms, and solar, hydro-generation and wind generation refill the pack while sailing. At 12,800 kg the 54 is light for 16 metres, which improves both sailing performance and the range those 40 kW deliver. Four cabins and twelve-person capacity suit both private ownership and charter.

Against alternatives

At €1.55 million the 54 competes with mainstream production cruising cats of similar length that cost less and offer conventional diesels. The premium buys the material story, the regeneration systems and a lighter, more performance-oriented platform — a coherent proposition for an owner who genuinely sails, less so for one who mostly motors.
